So I picked this up because I need a good fluff read. Something that would clear my head because I've been reading a lot of fantasy and it's a lot to focus on. I have always wanted to read an Abbi Glines book and my friend suggested I start with this series sine it is just two books.

I certainly got the fluff I wanted, but I just didn't click with the story. I liked the idea of what Glines was doing: girl torn between the two boys she's known all her life. I just feel like there wasn't enough substance to suspend my disbelief at what actually happened in the story. I needed more background. I needed to be shown more of the relationship between the three to really give me the idea that this girl had a hard time making the choices she had made.

Ashton is a good girl. At least that's what she wants everyone to believe. But beneath her goody two shoes exterior is a bad girl trying to make it's way out. However, I didn't see it. Glines gave us some of her trouble making as a kid, a ten year old kid at that, but it just wasn't enough to show me how she'd decided to change into the goody two shoes she is pretending to be. What made her change? Why did she feel the need to all of a sudden be a different person than she was? This was missing for me. Ash kept telling us that she new the bad girl was there, but I didn't get enough background for her to really show me this side of her.

Beau, well, he's the bad boy of the threesome. He was always the one who ran off with Ash to get into trouble as kids. And while we're told he's this bad guy, he doesn't do one thing during the book to show it to us. It's all just insinuation. I can't base my understanding of a character on that. I needed more. Show me times when he's bad and how he's bad. What does he do to make everyone in the town believe he's not worthy of a girl like Ash.

Sawyer, on the other hand, is the town "prince" and Mr. Good. But, again, I don't see it. It's all in what Ash tells us about him, not in his actions. Of course, he's not present for the first part of the book as Ash and Beau grow closer, but once he's introduced there is no action taken to show me why the whole town would stand behind him for just about anything. He's on the football team, is he the hometown hero? What does he do that makes him such a special person?

Then there's the relationship that forms between Beau and Ash. I didn't feel the attraction. She is with Sawyer for all these years but then suddenly she's giving in to an attraction that she's always had. I didn't feel it. I needed to feel how much tension there was between these two. I needed to feel them both trying not to be together because they knew it would ruin Sawyer. But that never happens.

Then there's Sawyer's easy acceptance of Beau and Ash after only a week of Ash breaking it off with him. How is that even possible after you've been with someone since you were 14? It just makes no sense. I was frustrated by the fact that there wasn't more anger from Sawyer, something more like revenge. Instead, he totally ignores her? The girl he's been with for 3 years? I just don't think this would happen. Why didn't he fight for her? Why didn't he try and make her see they were meant for each other.

<spoiler>Finally, there's the whole Ash losing her virginity thing. I would think this would be a big deal. Yet it's only glossed over in the book. We barely know it happens and then the only indication is her being asked if she's sore. Other than that, it's like it was no big deal for her to lose her virginity after having waited for so long. And how she loses, it's so fast and unexpected, to be honest. One day she's got a long term boyfriend, the next she's cheating on him and losing her virginity in the span of two weeks? Had there been tension and chemistry with the guy she lost it to, I might understand. Like if she just couldn't help herself. But we don't even get that</spoiler>

Overall, this was a fluffy read. Something that took me just about a day to finish. I contemplated putting it down at times because it wasn't really grabbing me. It never really did. It was fun enough but I really felt like so much more could have been explored and extrapolated on so that we found the relationships between the characters believable and the situation understandable. Instead, we just brush the surface. I'm not sure if I'll be reading the second book in this series.

I'm usually against infidelity in books but Abby Glines must be amazing because I loved this book. I devoured it. It was scorching hot!!

Let's start off with Ashton. I liked her right off the bat. She was just a very likable person. She's tries so hard to be "good" by others standards including her own boyfriend but it conflicts with who she really is. It's not that she wants to be bad. She just wants to be a normal teenage girl experiencing all the normal adolescence events except she is the daughter of the town's preacher and she has to be GOOD and clean. I liked how she knew what she wanted and who she wanted. There was no conflict of who she wanted to be with. There was just the conflict of coming between two best friends/cousins and protecting the person she loved most. I think that's why I was able to overlook the infidelity. It wasn't like other books where the heroine goes back and forth and is indecisive. I mean yes, she was conflicted at first but then figured out what she wanted except going for what she wanted would be the selfish thing to do. It would hurt the person she loves or so she thinks.

Then there's Beau. The other guy. The best friend/cousin. He's is hot!!! I loved Beau right off the bat as well. He was cocky, sexy, and possessive. The alpha male. He made Ashton want to be bad. He riled her up. He was sin. Okay so he wasn't as badass as everyone made him out to be but he also wasn't a goody two shoe. Plus he was raised by a single mom who works at a bar. He grew up poor. His backstory really broke my heart and later when revelations were revealed, I was even more heart broken for him. The scene at the end where he says he's glad that there's one person who cares and loves him and that's all that matters. Ashton. Ugh poor guy. There was no one in his corner to encourage him, love him, take care of him. He loved Ashton since they were little kids. He loved his cousin just as much as well. So when his cousin Sawyer went for the girl he had to step back. Sawyer had everything. The perfect family, perfect life and now the perfect girl. He never envied sawyer until he took Ashton for his own. Heartbroken again!!! How could anyone not love this poor guy?

Anyways I thought the story was beautiful even with the infidelity. Cheating is never justified but when your heart wants something you can't help it. It wasn't just for the heck of it. It was something they both suppressed for so long it was bound to break loose and boy did it. I loved every scene with Beau and Ashton. You can just tell they were perfect together. The story was beautiful. Read it. It won't disappoint you.

I love Beau and Ashton too much. Idk if I will like Sawyer's story for book 2 about him and Lana. I didn't care for Lana too much in book 1 either.
