This is the second book in the Keye Street series. Keye is now in a relationship with Lieutenant Aaron Rauser of Atlanta Homicide Division. He is investigating a serial murder where the victims seem to have little in common. One of the people who the murderer is after is Miki, Keye's cousin, who has had serious psychiatric problems. At the same time, she is a world class photographer. She has a history of mental illness along with drug and alcohol abuse so when she first reports a stalker, the police do not take her seriously. The murderer has a signature at each murder - he leaves some wrapping paper, a ribbon, or balloons with the corpse. What does this all mean? Each of the victims is on the verge of a nice transition in life and perhaps this is what connects them to one another. One is a thirteen year old boy who is a stellar athlete, one is an elderly man and the other is a prostitute who has just gotten clean and sober and is off the streets.
Keye has remained clean and sober but is not active in AA. She is invited by Aaron to be a consultant in the murder case and accepts. There is a new Commissioner of police and her participation should be more welcome than last time. At the same time, Keye is investigating a claim that the ashes delivered from a crematorium to the families of the dead are not the ashes of dead people. Rather, in the urns are chicken feed and concrete. This investigation turns rather gruesome.
The novel is a page-turner like the other two books and I thoroughly enjoyed it. My only criticism is that it sometimes goes off on tangents. I recommend this book to mystery buffs who like their reading hard core.

Great story by a local author
Previously bought "Don't talk to strangers" from a book store not knowing it had books before it in a storyline. Can't wait to read!
Williams returns with Keye Street - the unlikely Chinese/American/Southern PhD alcoholic private eye. Keye has paid a high price to get her life back on track. Alcoholism cost her the BAU job with the FBI. She is now a private eye with a gun and a desire for a drink that will send her spiraling back down. She also has Detective Aaron Rauser - a sexy Atlanta homicide detective. And she has a cat named White Trash and a thriving business.
In this installment her cousin Miki is being stalked - or is she? Miki has a long history of cutting, drug abuse and drama. She comes home one night to find a man in her house - she freaks and contacts Keye. Keye isn't sure if she is reverting to old behavior or the 'man in the window' actually happened but she wants to help her cousin.
Rauser is dealing with the murder of a thirteen-year-old boy. Soon more bodies show up and the crimes seem to be connected to Miki. Simultaneously Keye is hired to get to the bottom of a mix up at a crematorium.
Williams keeps you turning the pages, Keye is flawed, honest and likeable. Rauser is a perfect foil and Emily and Howard Street are the parents who rescued her but have issues of their own. The whole episode comes together to a satisfying conclusion.
Recommended.
I thoroughly enjoy reading the Keye Street novels, however I didn't feel as much punch with this novel. I enjoyed the first and third very much and I had no idea what was coming, this one ended kind of soft. Still worth the read! Excited for the next from Amanda Kyle Williams!
Well I loved book one in this series, but this, book two, has blown my socks off ! It's even better and way more developed than the first book, and there was nothing at all wrong with that one, this has just gone up to the next level. If I had to compare I would say the main character and the storyline reminds me of a cross between Janet Evanovich & Sue Graftons characters. So if you like either if them, or just enjoy a really good book, then look no further, oh and read them in order, the character developments great and minor storylines go from book to book.
I read Ms. Williams first novel The Stranger You Seek and I was so impressed by her writing, I have now purchased her second book and can't wait until another book comes out.
Very quick paced story line that will keep you reading until you get to the very last page. You don't want to put this one down. Ex-FBI profiler Keye Street, is a very complex character. Ms. Williams brings out the best and worst of Ms. Street and you are hooked by her background and where she came from and the trials and tribulations of a screwed up person. This is not a "chick book" as the writing is raw and gritty. My. Williams has a way of drawing you into the story and it won't let go. Awesome writing by Ms. Williams and if you are looking for a new and upcoming writer, Amanda Kyle Williams should be first on your list.
I loved Ms Williams 1st Keye Street book, and this one doesn't disappoint, though not quite as good as first. Keyes still feisty, flawed, believable character. Love her equally flawed family and Keye's attempts to find a middle ground with them. Her 1st book had such an excellent plot, surprise ending/murderer, I had hoped for same with this book, but no. Don't think this is SPOILER ALERT, but let's just say I enjoy mysteries much more when the bad guy is someone we've met and didn't suspect throughout the story. High marks though for further exploring Keyes's ongoing battle with alcohol addiction, and her conflicting relationship with her family. Good police procedural, love her cop boyfriend Rauser, quirky workmate Neil, and especially her kitty White Trash. If you've never read the first book in series, I highly recommend you do before reading this one. Will give a better understanding of some of references made to it throughout story without that "HUH?" feeling.
